When high profile captives are taken in New York City their captor, John Tucson soon forces the Archbishop of New York into live broadcasts on CNN news. All the while FBI Agents are sent on macabre adventures to try save Tucson's captives. It then becomes a race against time finding clues set against the backdrop of New York's ancient natural history.
The hunt for Tucson later goes nationwide when he kidnaps four children from a creche and his hide at Lake Hopatcong is discovered. It then becomes known the Captor's own family were killed by Christian extremists in Jerusalem some years previously. Calling them 'Herod's Babies' Tucson begins leaving the abducted children at natural monuments such as the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater, Arizona. Once the archbishop accedes to certain misguiding's by the Churches hierarchy, cryptic clues to the children's whereabouts are then given to FBI Agents Straker and Wildman.
As modern day macabre biblical parables unfold across America, Professor Dreyfus shows on live television how the Christian religion was humbly founded and later grew. He tells how the Pope in 2010 admitted he could see no reason why man could not have evolved. The professor then asks was there a starting/ cut-off point during our long evolution from the apes for a human heaven to begin The professor then, with a team of research students from Columbia University, unearths overwhelming evidence there was no Son of a God here on earth 2,000 years ago. (This section of the novel has taken over four years to research.)
The story nears its climax on Christmas Eve as the last 'enlightenment broadcast' is aired highlighting our civilisations real origins:. Meanwhile the FBI agents are sent off across New Jersey, this time in an effort to save the last two remaining child captives before their gruesome deaths in a savage re-enactment of the Nativity story. At the same time the archbishop of New York is forced out onto the streets of Manhattan on his very own 'Way of the Cross', finding clues in the hope of offsetting a horrific scenario dreamt up by the Captor John Tucson.
